New driving restrictions for teens in Ontario

Today, the Ontario government is introducing new legislation that puts new restrictions on young drivers. They would face restrictions for up to three years, up from the previous two. The new measures are aimed at reducing the toll between new, young drivers, including measures such as zero tolerance for speeding, drinking and driving, and a limit of one teenage passenger. Members of the driver's family are exempt, so a brother can bring drive his siblings to school. The probation period for G1 drivers have pushed by six months to a total of 18 months, must be accompanied by drivers with over four years of driving experience, and can't drive on the 400-series highways, the Gardiner, the Don Valley Parkway, and the like. G2 drivers also face 18-month probation, but the restriction on one passenger may end after 12 months. Opposition MPs applauded the content, but questioned the need for the passenger limitation.

Personally, as a teen, I think this is unfair. Many people like me do not drink. The actions of these few teens should not affect the majority. There are many stupid ideas in this law, such as the prohibition of driving on the highway and the one-teen passenger restriction. Many teens drive their friends nearby to the movies, other friends' houses, and to and from school. They often pay their friends a little money, enough so they can pay the fuel but still cheaper than public transport. I believe that this only causes inconvenience to teens, not help.
